When you cross a border, you cease to be yourself - you become you and the image of you that is created based on prejudices. I want to see if these prejudices can be broken down so that we can be seen by each other.
Our Story
“Borders and Belonging” is a feature-length documentary film exploring the quest for identity through two interwoven narratives. The story follows a 40-day solo pilgrimage across the United States (the outer journey) alongside a series of intimate psychodrama reenactments of the director’s personal memories filmed in Puerto Rico (the inner journey).

JULIA UBRANKOVICS
Julia Ubrankovics is an award winning film, television and theater actress, international theater producer and filmmaker. She was born before the Iron Curtain fell in Hungary and is a proud Hungarian - American dual citizen. Her latest work "Perpetuity" directed by György Pálfi, premiered at the Black Nights International Film Festival PÖFF in Tallinn, Estonia. Summer 2022 she worked on a new HBO series called "Spy/Master". She is Milana, The Heartrenderer Grisha on the new Netflix series "Shadow & Bone". Julia worked with Al Pacino for three months rehearsing for "Hunters" on Amazon Prime.
Her career covers 20+ years of work with features, shorts, theater plays, radio plays and commercials in the USA, Austria, Germany, France and Hungary. She was awarded Best Actress at the 40th Hungarian Film Festival for her leading role in the feature Virtually a Virgin.
Julia owned and co-founded J.U.S.T. Toys Productions LLC, a Los Angeles based production company, producing "The Dog, The Night and The Knife" in New York and "Toys: A Dark Fairy Tale" and "Fefu & Her Friends" in Los Angeles. The plays traveled extensively in the USA -New York, Los Angeles and in Europe - France, Hungary, Romania.
